A robot vacuum is able to keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency with which you'll need to manually vacuum. Find one that has an easy navigation, can clean corners and stairs and has a huge dust bin that requires emptying only once in a while.

There are models that mop and charge themselves this is an option essential for families with children or pets. The top performers in our tests have good obstacle avoidance.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.

Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on floors and carpets, and they can easily navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However, unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have a feature for avoiding obstacles which means it can get stuck on things like socks or power cords and it can have difficulty navigating across surface transitions like from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests cleaning the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it might encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dust bin and filter clear so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted it will return to its docking station and automatically empties its dirt into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use. It takes about three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest technology. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most significant feature is the self-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot using voice or via the app.

The i7+ is faster and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also removed large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot on how to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions as well as move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. Once connected we were able to give the i7+ voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its marketing claims that it can provide up to 60 minutes of run time are a bit misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is an average and not a remarkable time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is enough time to clean a typical-sized home but not enough to reach every spot. (A second run is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeably superior on carpets with low pile.

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums, the 694 is an affordable model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to spend too much on a robot. In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. However, it wasn't particularly well in avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was a disappointment. It's also a little more expensive than some of the other models we've tested which could be a deterrent for some shoppers.
